Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

SECTION I PANDEMIC CHALLENGES ON SECURITY

DESCRIPTION: biological threat; political-military, economic-financial and social consequences; hybrid aggression in the pandemic context; effects on trends in the international security environment; state and supra-state control policies and strategies; the role of international and regional organizations during the pandemic period; measures and inter-institutional cooperation in crisis management.

SECTION II STATE AND NON-STATE ACTORS IN POWER RELATIONS

DESCRIPTION: state actors - definition, role, international recognition; non-state actors - appearance, differentiations, objectives, legislative aspects; geopolitical context; power relations; international and regional security and defence organizations; international law and armed conflict; tensions, crises, conflicts; frozen conflicts; failed states; managing political transitions in different regions of the globe; nuclear disarmament and the proliferation phenomenon in all its aspects; the role and implications of using private security companies in the context of interstate conflicts; the diaspora and its role as an actor in supporting transformations at the regional and global level; terrorism and violent, illegitimate action.

SECTION III NATIONAL DEFENCE AND RESILIENCE

DESCRIPTION: stability and change in the international security environment; vulnerabilities, risks, dangers, threats; evolving security concepts; security dimensions; global climate change security and implications for international security; the economic factor and world economic re-establishment; new aspects of peace support operations; urban armed violence; migration, terrorism; the demographic factor.

SECTION IV STRATEGIC CONCEPTS AND THEORIES

DESCRIPTION: strategic theory and practice; military art theory; strategic action; strategic interactions; strategic competition; alternative strategies; strategic models; strategic concepts; military strategic thinking; strategic culture; the role and importance of scientific research in society and the military.

SECTION V AREAS OF STRATEGIC INTEREST

DESCRIPTION: close proximity (Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey); Wider Black Sea Region; Western Balkans; South Caucasus; Middle East and North Africa; East Asia; Central Asia; South-East Asia; the USA, etc.

SECTION VI INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW

DESCRIPTION: the law of war; legal approach to disputes between states; regulation in international law of the armed forces use; definition and typology of armed conflicts; legal norms applicable in time of armed conflict or war (persons authorized to commit acts of hostility, the rights and obligations of combatants, prohibited methods and means of war, etc.); humanitarian protection during armed conflicts (legal instruments for the protection of victims, civilian population and property, protected categories of persons and goods, special rules, etc.); delimitation of the scope of application of the international humanitarian law; legal means to end armed conflicts; international criminal liability for violation of humanitarian law.

SECTION VII MILITARY HISTORY

DESCRIPTION: historical impact events for national/international security; lessons learned; the evolution of the military organization and the civil-military relations; the historical course of military education; historical events that have moulded the security environment.
